The film Stop-Loss seems to have an underlying theme of psychological effects of war for soldiers, as do most war-related films. I feel in the class discussing this film, we should focus on the psychological effects warfare has on the human mind not only in film and media but in reality as our troops serve in Iraq. As far as film, great psychological war films should be discussed in allusion to this topic such as Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, The Deer Hunter, and many other films.
To many individuals view war movies and find misinterpreted meanings behind the plot or do not look beyond the explosions and action of the scenes. Also, some films of war are not written with the intent to discuss psychological matters [i.e. directors like Michael Bay].
