State of Play focuses on the interactions between politics and the media. This interaction has caused much controversy over the years of this conflict. Whether it be the uncovered scandals of politicians such as Rod Blagojevic and David Vitter, right wing and left wing media "news" coverage or alleged subliminal messages in political based commercials. Similar topics were touched upon in Good Night and Good Luck as the focus stuck more towards the motives of the media. Many scenes in State of Play such as the refusal to publish the story in fear that it would not produce much revenue represents the problems with the media as stated in Good Night and Good Luck. When the media focuses on monetary value, the stories begin to become less important and informative and more entertaining and meaningless. This issue is touched upon in State of Play in such scenes because of the focus on profit generated rather than importance of the story.
