Morally, I can be pretty sure that everyone is against torture of any kind. It’s just wrong. Torture, however, is used by a lot of governments for a lot of different reasons. So, is it right? Are we wrong to just blindly accept this cruelty for the greater good of our country? I believe that there are certain circumstances where torture can possibly be used. This, however, should be an absolute last resort and the victim would have to be tried and convicted in a fair court of law and awarded his or her basic rights. If this individual still refuses to give up vital information, I believe that a mind form of torture may be used. Political correctness is sometimes getting in the way of getting things done for the safety of our people. If a convicted criminal against the United States is withholding vital information of, for example, an upcoming terrorist attack, I feel as though the government has the right and should do anything possible within its powers to protect its people. This may resort to torture. This torture shouldn’t jeopardize the life of the individual, however, and a trained “torturer” should carry out these practices. Also, a time period should be instated if the convicted criminal does not talk, just incase he or she truly is not withholding information. It’s a dog eat dog world, let’s stop getting eaten. Hooray America.
