While watching the movie and without really giving it any other thought, I believed the movie to be a simple-minded teenage comedy. In retrospect, however, I am able to see a subtle political message. It is obvious that the film mocks the corruption that is occurring or has occurred in our government. Although the film clearly criticizes the government, however, I am not sure that it is sending a message. It is possible that the film could be sending a message to its teenage viewers that our government is clearly corrupt, and, unless someone intervenes, it is going to remain the way it is. The media on MTV, similarly, endorsed voter registration in attempts to get our generation more involved. Our generation is not as active as previous generations have been in the fight against social injustice. Without a certain amount of social activism, society will not move forward, and previous advancements could possibly digress.
So, although I think that the film may have had a slight political message, for the most part, I thought it was a “bong film,” as you put it, and there are numerous reasons why I believe that people my age enjoy them. I, for one, enjoy stupid humor that doesn’t involve any emotion. Watching an emotional movie drains me, so I tend to avoid doing so at all costs. In addition, I think that the younger crowd can relate to these “bong movies” because they partake in similar recreational activities as the actors do in these movies.
Note this is not your rendition blog. I will keep looking for it, but I have yet to find it. I suggest you come by my office and show me where the Rendition Blog is.
