5 things learned about film
1. the use of mise en scene to analyze a movie
2. a McGuffen is the plot element that catches the attention of the audience
3. Films, through the elements of mise en scene, not only affect the visual aspect of a movie but affect the viewer psychologically as well.
4. directors think of EVERYTHING when they are filming, ex: the mountain in the background during a scene in Brokeback mountain. Nothing is accidental.
5. rhyming elements play a big role in developing the theme of a film.
5 things learned about politics in America
1. politics and the media are partners in running our societies our perception of the government.
2. politics can be found even in children’s movies.
3. the united states in fact does not have a hold on the drug war
4. there are still ideas of white supremacy in America
5. our country is driven by fear –bowling for columbine, state of play, good night and good luck, etc.
Before this class I only viewed films as artistic ways to portray a story. I looked at the filming techniques of a film rather than its themes or overall message. Now though, I have learned a variety of ways to use those techniques, now I know as mise en scene, to interpret the deeper message of a movie, and understand that directors spend a lot of time planning something that may only take 30 seconds of screen time. These reason, as well as others, are why I have decided to minor in film.
