Dupuis Harold/Kumar

There is a deeper message in this movie relating to the amount of power given over to government officials and the ability of any authority figure to summarily wave all of a victims rights away. While any serious message is buried in a haze of cannabis and slapstick, there is one nonetheless.
Another topic which plays throughout the film is the freedom of speech. The director pushes the limits on socially acceptable images and phrases. This seems to enhance the loss of rights message of the rest of the movie. With the advent of the PATRIOT Act, the specter of having ones rights taken away without any evidence is real. This movie uses its rights to the limit in which it could since at any moment they could be taken away for them or the rest of society. Americans have become afraid of their own shadow in this day and age compared to the patriots who created this nation. All it would take is one more visually stunning terrorist attack for Americans to roll over further and give up the rest of our rights as Humans; all for the illusion of safety. I personnaly would rather risk the 1:1,000,000,000 chance that I get involved in a terrorist attack then have any law like the PATRIOT Act or a Department of Homeland Security. I had better odds of hitting the powerball then being killed by a terrorist, even before all these pointless new laws.
