Many Americans are unaware of Americas stop loss policy. This policy forces enlisted members of the armed forces into extra tours our service after their original assignment. Because of the lack of support for the war, enlistments have dropped off. the president cannot call for a draft, so the military resorts to stop loss to get the required amount of troops. This puts extra stress on current soldiers who often have difficulty readjusting to normal life. The extra stress of additional tours of duty would be too much for most soldiers. If stop lossed a soldier has very few choices of what to do. he could serve the tour, flee the country, or serve prison time for refusing to go. I think a better option that all of these however, is for a soldier to claim hes gay. Due to the armys "dont ask dont tell" policy, if someone says they are gay they can not be in the military. Until Americas stop loss policy is changed, we may see a spike of homosexuality in our countrys armed forces.
