How to deal with stop-loss is a difficult question. Because we don’t have a draft anymore, sometimes when the army needs more people it automatically reenlists soldiers whose tours have already ended and forces them to go back to the army. Seemingly the only way to avoid this is to reinstate the draft, but who wants that? This forces those coming out of the army facing this issue to do the same thing people did to avoid the draft: petition the government, flee to Canada or somewhere else, go to jail, etc. This is a difficult issue and the only way I see a resolution is living in a more peaceful world. As I doubt that the wars will end any time soon I don’t think that stop-loss will end or be resolved in the near future without reinstating the draft. It sucks but just because Hollywood made a movie about it doesn’t mean that the issue is getting as much attention as it deserves.
Try to write a bit more about the complexity of the issue.
